I loved what they were trying to do with the story, and the amount of potential this game has is huge. It would have gone a long way to making you love them. I wish that there were more that you got to know and that they had a lot more development. I formed a connection with my patients and I cared about them. It felt his character was limited to the story this game was telling, if that makes sense. Still, I wish we knew more about his past and family. I like that when bad things happen he takes it hard. He’s like Mae but more positive and has full-blown conversations with inanimate objects. The soundtrack was an acoustic collection of songs that were very pretty, but it couldn’t ever stack up to Night in the Woods. It’s hard to take them serious when stuff is happening for that reason. However, I don’t like the character designs all that much besides Finley. The art style was gorgeous, maybe even prettier than Night in the Woods. The game’s ending is so abrupt that you’re almost guaranteed to be like, “What the actual hell? That’s it?” It just leaves you hanging off every thread. And not like a Bruce situation, they just stop existing and Finley forgets they exist. One of the characters closest to Finley vanishes off of the face of the planet at one point without any explanation. Seemed like they just did it for a dramatic cliffhanger and hook for the game. Major Backbone vibes there, which I dislike that game for that reason.įinley gets a head injury in the beginning of the game (it’s like his version of ‘coming home from college’, but it doesn’t mean anything and it never explains why something else that happened at that time happened. It ends with none of the main issues resolved in a satisfying away. Things ramp up like crazy, but by the end of it, NOTHING is explained at all and it kind of makes no sense what the hell was going on? You get the pieces of what was going on but it is not executed well. The entire last hour of the game goes by so fast it’s overwhelming. I couldn’t emotionally connect with it since it was expected. Something happens in the game that loses a lot of impact because it was bound to happen. Those ranks never have consequences, so you can take very poor care if your patients and there are no repercussions, which there should be, even if it is just dialogue. It makes it incredibly hard to get A ranks late game. You are expected to hold all these buttons, but there is no possible way to do it without two hands on one side of the controller at times. The controls for one of the minigames makes no sense without a keyboard. There is stuff like this everywhere throughout the game. Like you just moved to town, hangout with someone twice, and they say “you’re always so helpful”. A lot of times, it feels like it is trying to form meaningful connection with the characters, but because there isn’t enough time spent on it, you don’t care that much. I understand they are a smaller studio and these bugs can be fixed, so it’s not a problem It makes the game feel quite unpolished and it happens frequently, maybe every day of the game. I had quite a few issues with this game that make it one I can’t, in good faith, recommend: Tackling the issues of the healthcare system was so fascinating and the demo was amazing. It was a small studio making a game that seemed like it would have a lot of heart and passion in it. I’ll be the first to say I was extremely supportive and excited for this game.
